Oreo Peanut Butter Brownie Cakes

 Soooo I know I try to cook a variety of food. But lately I've tended more towards the healthy, easy, family-friendly options, mainly because Matt (hubby) and I are trying to eat a little bit healthier and I like to make things that I can pack into my lunchbox for work.

It might be hard for you to believe but I am a huge lover of American-over-the-top-fattening-how-many-calories-can-you-get-into-one-meal food. We will be travelling to America for Christmas/New Year 2014 (bank account permitting), and I want to start sharing a few totally ridiculous recipes to get us revved up for the trip, and also just because I'm fat.

Before we delve into the world of the American-heartattack-inducing-cholesterol-feast, I wanted to introduce you to a few of my favourite American foodies and one of their most disgustingly delicious Canadian Neighbours.

Firstly, I love love love Adam Richman. Man v. Food is not only a show about one mans quest to take on every food challenge in America, but it also is a culinary journey around The States. Travelling to most, if not all of the States in the U.S, Adam shows us 'non-natives' all the different types of cuisine around the country. It's really quite educational if you can get past the fact that 9 times out of 10 he ends up making himself sick doing these challenges.
We intend to do a fair few of Man v. Food Nation's well recommended restaurants, cafe's and pit-stops while we're over there. You can check out some locations here;

On the other end of the scale we have all the crazy bakers that The Food Network can't seem to stop teasing us with. Duff Goldman being one of our favourites with Ace Of Cakes. I mean... Really?! When you say cake, most people think butter, flour, sugar, eggs and milk...But Ace Of Cakes take it to a whole new level, making cakes so massive they need metal supports, some even having working mechanical parts... AMAZING! But that's just the tip of the iceberg, we also have a spin-off show called Sugar High, not to mention Cake Boss, DC cupcakes, Cupcake Wars. Seriously, the list goes on!
That brings me to the YouTube channel that stopped a nation('s hearts- because they gave everyone a heart attack). Epic Meal Time. What can I say? These bearded, Canadian rebels are aggressive and cook food that will either make your stomach turn or make you salivate. They are well known for their excessive use of bacon (if there is such a thing), swearing like sailors and using the word 'SOUSE' in a disconcerting manner. They push the limits of over-doing everything, well... I can't even explain it, you just have to see for yourself.

Ok, now that I've blown your mind with some crazy TV shows/YouTube channels, I'll post a recipe that I fully intend to make in the coming weeks leading up to Christmas. , and although some people may think it looks like it would taste horrible. Just think of this- the combination of complimentary flavours are what create an enjoyable dish.
This dish uses Sweet and Salty, along with contrasting textures. So the next time you cringe at something like candied-bacon or some other strange food-marriage you've never experienced, how about you give it a go because it might just surprise you.
